Oracle Database Indexes: Myths, Tips and Tricks

In this tutorial, OCM John Watson will – via demonstrations – debunk these myths and demonstrate best practices for indexing for performance.

Myth #1: Oracle Database does not index NULL

Myth #2: A search that includes wildcards can’t use an index if the wildcard precedes the string.

Myth #3: Oracle will not use a function-based index unless the FBI is coded in the predicate.

Myth #4: Indexes always help.  The more indexes the better.
